I take my ipod everywhere - for audiobooks, self hypnosis tracks to use at the acupuncturist's, podcasts, language lessons and Oh Yes! Music.

I have only one complaint (which is why I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars) - some other brands have an audio recorder and I sure wish this one had one! I will probably end up buying another brand of mp3 someday just for that. In fact, I have bought some cheapo mp3 recorders just for that - but they were too junky to bother with. And I don't really trust non-mac-compatible ones.

A recorder built in would fill a real need.

i got my ipod nano almost 3 years ago. its worked perfect hee are some pros and cons about it

pros

its small

it can hold all the music ilike(250 songs )

the navigation is very easy to use

it charges pretty fast

the batter goes down quite slwoly

cons

it gets scratched easily(just buy a 1 dollar gel skin)

it has had 2 minor bugs(just plug in ur pod to the computer go to >start>programs>ipod>ipod updater>refresh)

the headphone jack doesnt really hold the headfones in well

over all this is a good buy but shop around for a bit u can get these new-refurbished for about 60 dollars @ some places

"Beautiful piece of work, but not recommended for audio books!" 2008-03-11

I bought this item for its great looks, form factor and the Apple interface, but I've come to regret this choice as I primarily listen to audio books with this device. My primary issues with using this device for audio books are:

-1- Doesn't support DRM-protected Windows Media Audio (WMA) files!! That precludes me from downloading Overdrive books from my local library. Most devices at this price point support this feature and I wish Apple would too.

-2- I loose my bookmark whenever the unit is recharged (really inconvenient for books!!).

-3- I only get ~5 hrs of runtime between charges.

Also, the 'click-shift' mechanism for selecting files is hard to work with, and there have been a few technical glitches whereby all content on the iPod spuriously vanished.

I received my 4gb pink nano as a Christmas present last year and so far so GREAT!!! I have no complaints at all. My nano has withstood two teenage sons taking it from room to room, one 12 yr old daughter who goes horse riding listening to it and me, who takes it along to work and endures the bus ride home. Its always had a cover on it which I insist or they dont borrow it and for the longest time I kept the covering on the screen and dial but after 6 months my son removed them and still NO scratches and this nano is in pockets, purses, backpacks and sometimes just lying around, its been dropped I hate to say and still working like a charm. we love this little gadget of technology and this Christmas my 3 kids are getting their own so maybe mom can have hers back!! I would recommend it!!!!

I recently decided to get rid of my ipod shuffle, and try a nano, and I can't believe what I was missing! Since budget was a big consideration, I started out with a used 2nd generation 2GB nano - while I loved it, it just didn't have the room I wanted, so I sold it and bought a used 4gb - WHAT A DIFFERENCE!

For some reason, it more than doubled what I could fit on it - I'm still trying to find music that I want to put on it. I don't need to carry my entire music collection around with me, just my favorites, and the 4gb nano is perfect for me. It's so easy to use, and so easy to carry around - we spend a lot of hours together!

This Ipod has exactly the right amount of space for me, and it seems to make everything I do more pleasant, even housecleaning! In fact I find myself looking for things that need doing around the house, and a whole lot more is getting done, just because I enjoy listening so much. The sound quality is great, too!

This is the perfect Ipod for me - maybe one day I'll upgrade, but I don't see any reason to, so in the event anything happens to the one I have, I hope used ones will be available for a LONG time!

Apple's done it again! I bought one used for $50 bucks online and I haven't stopped listening to it! The 2GB is perfect for people like me who only have around 300 songs and can't afford the 3th gen. Nano or the 4th gen. The podcast feature is nifty and the photo slideshow was a surprising touch. The battery life is HUGE! I can't beleive that it can go for hours on end with no stopping. The shape is very clean looking and appealing, and it looks far better then my sister's 4GB iPod Classic. The earphone quality is excellent. The album artwork was a great addition, although it glitches a tiny bit(but, again, mine was used). The only letdown I can think of is it can't play videos and 2GB is probably not enough for people these days. But I can't afford videos anyways and I have only 300 songs on my computer so it doesn't matter to me. If you look hard enough you can get one in excellent shape for around $70 bucks online. If your one of those people with 2,000 songs and who can afford buying stuff on iTunes all the time, this iPod isn't for you. However, if your a low income family and just want to listen to a few songs a day, this is a must have. Yay for Apple!!!

Bought it because the 5G came out and amazon has a great deal on the 4G. love all the new features, only issue is many of the radios / speakers that charge all the other ipods now say charging not supported on this accessory. The usb charger works and my wall chargers so I don't know what apple did with this. It is my only complaint. (this replaced an older - probably 1G or 2G nano)

Maybe I just got a bad nano, maybe not, but I have had problems with it since I purchased this unit a year ago. My first problem with it was that one day it stopped working right in the middle of an audiobook I was listening to, so I took it in to the Apple Store and they fixed it, but ever since then the battery life has been poor.

Now that the warranty is over, I cannot get it to charge at all, even with it connected directly to the computer. I'll have to take it back in and probably end up paying a lot of money to either fix it or purchase a new one, but I'll be taking a serious look at replacing it with one of the ipod's many competitors.

It's too bad because other than this problem, I really do like it...

The Ipod worked well for one year then quit just after the guarantee expired. I emailed Apple to see if they would offer any advice or help, but no response. I won't buy another Ipod. Ordered from a "trusted" vendor on Amazon, Geek's Goodies, I received a product that was NOT an Apple iPod. It was an unnamed, non-branded item that had obviously been previously sold and returned. It had files on it from previous buyer, and the directions were completely useless. Would NOT download from iTunes because it was a rip-off brand. Could not return it because there was NO invoice with it. This issue STILL has not been resolved. Shipping box had been used several times, as well. Will never order from any vendor that is not directly Amazon again.

This particular model of Ipod recieved the most new features. So much so, that I sold my Ipod classic to have those features. It is a great deal with all of the features. This is literally an extremely portable media machine. Basically every kind of media can be on here, except books. Photos, music, movies,tv shows, audiobooks, games, videos and the ability to record video, allows you to make videos and extract images from them.

While the video function is not the best, it is great start and with all the other media availble this becomes a great deal. The video even has built-in effects. This was one of those few purchases you do where you feel like you got your moneys worth.Enjoy!

"Why you need a Nano, a Touch, and a Classic" 2010-02-19

As a grandparent, I've found the Touch, and now the Nano, my biggest ammunition, easily making me the figure of attraction and grandparent of choice. The 3-year-old wants to see the "Three Little Piggies" over and over again while the 5-year-old fights with him so she can see "Dora Saves the Mermaids." The Touch easily could handle both, but now they each have an iPod for simultaneous viewing of two different movies. The Nano apparently doesn't download applications and all of those games and accessories like the Touch, but I don't miss it that much nor do the grand-kids since I have installed enticing videos on both. And kids simply are not conscious of small matters like screen size and audio quality. They're as happy to hold a Nano as a Touch.

The Touch and iPhone are definitely sui generis, but don't discount this Nano. Tiny it may be, but it's the quickest, most convenient, video cam I've ever encountered, which is something else the kids enjoying looking at, whether video of themselves or the dog and cat. Moreover, from my perspective the FM radio and pedometer are big bonuses on the Nano. I was delighted to know I could easily pick up Chicago and Milwaukee FM, each 50 miles out.

As for the Classic, I was so convinced that Apple wouldn't make any more 160-gig iPods that I had paid a bit extra for a used one. But the 160-gig Classic is back, and you can use it as a back-up storage drive--for your music files or entire computer.

Sorry, no experience with an iPad--yet. (I'm waiting for a "real" keyboard. So far, the Mac Air is the closest Apple has come to a genuinely practical "netbook.")

I always thought that I don't need an ipod but now I'm so happy that I have one. The sound is great and it just looks so nice. It's very easy to use even if you did not use itunes before. What I'm a bit disappointed about is that the battery life is to short. I'm using my Ipod every day and I have to load the battery almost every second day :/ But I still like it
